    This trail is kept at an easy difficulty level. The lower section has a medium diffi culty of A/B and leads to a wide open meadow. From there it continues on a narrow stretch to a fork-off . The route on the right is particularly suitable for beginners and children (A/B), while the left variant follows the striking rock pillar directly to Hohe Mut in a quite airy and panoramic climb (C).

     

    Take the Hohe Mut cable car from the center of Gurgl to the middle station. From there, follow the forest road for about 25 minutes until a trail branches off to the left. Follow this trail and after a few minutes, turn right to reach the start of the via ferrata. It is recommended to put on your via ferrata equipment at this junction to avoid delays for other climbers at the start.The approach to the via ferrata is well signposted.Total walking time from the Hohe Mut cable car middle station is 45 minutes.

     

    Access:

    Access without cable car:If the cable car is closed, there is the option to hike from the center of Gurgl to the via ferrata entrance (approx. 1:15 h). You can also ride an (E)-bike to the middle station of the Hohe Mut Bahn (approx. 30 min) and hike from there to the entrance.

    Descent:

    Descent without cable car:From the end of the via ferrata, follow the signs to the center of Gurgl. The recommended path is through the Zirbenwald, walking time: 1.5 hours.

    PLACES TO REST:You can find a place to rest at the Hohe Mut Alm, which is located right next to the top station of the Hohe Mut Bahn. Further opportunities for refreshment can be found by walking towards the town center at the Schönwieshütte or Zirben Alm.

    The Austrian Alpine Club has published 10 recommendations for climbing on via ferratas in order to increase safety:

     

    Plan carefully

    Destination should correspond to personal abilities

    Use complete set of professional climbing equipment

    Don’t access the route in the event of a thunderstorm

    Check wire rope and anchors accurately and critically

    Partner check at the access point

    Maintain sufficient distance

    Talk clearly when overtaking someone

    Watch out for falling rocks

    Respect nature and environment

    Public transport

    Travel safe and comfortable with the train to the Ötztal Bahnhof train station. Last stop and exit point is the train station Ötztal Bahnhof. Afterwards you can travel smoothly and quick with the public transport or our local taxi companies through the valley to your desired destination.     The car drive to the Ötztal valley. Situated in Tirol, the Ötztal valley set off in southerly direction and is the longest side valley in the Eastern Alps. The journey with the car leads you through the Inntal valley to the entrance of the valley and further on through the valley. Among the toll motorways you can also use the countryroads.
