A rewarding mountain bike tour for real experts, featuring no less than 1320 meters of altitude gain up to Frischmann Hütte. The scenic paths travels across unspoilt nature landscapes far away from busy tourist routes. The strenuous uphill stage already starts in Umhausen. A switch-backing gravel trail leads up to one of Ötztal's countless western slopes. After passing lovely Vordere Fundusalm you reach a wildly romantic high Alpine basin, accompanied by the rushing waters of Fundusbach brook.
The next stage has a bit less change in altitude and is ideal for admiring the stunning Alpine scenery. Picture-book lake Fundussee makes a perfect place for restoring your energies. Surrounded by the mighty 3000-meter peaks of Fundusfeiler and Blockkogel, quaint Hintere Fundusalm can be made out in the valley at 1900 m above sea level.
The last steep ascent to Frischmann Hütte is rewarded with a tasty mountain snack on the hut at some 2192 m above sea level. Worth seeing: the so-called "Köfler Jochwaal" path is an old irrigation ditch for the fields and meadows of Köfels, dating back to the 15th century. It used to collect the melting water coming down from Ploderferner glacier. Special tip: a visit to the ultimate Ötzi Village in Umhausen is an absolute must. The outdoor park provides loads of information about Ötzi, the renowned "glacier mummy", and his time.
