As one of the most rustic alpine pastures of the Ötztal with the added feature of the "afternoon sun", the "Stallwies", as the Ötztaler call their pastures, is a place where you can go the whole year.  Locals also like to take a trip to the Stallwiesalm.
From the Freizeit Arena Sölden, you go along Granbichlstraße (Granbichl district) to the parking at the barrier whre the winterwalking trail start. The forstroad leads through the light pine forest and with every meter of height the prospects of the opposing mountain range of the Geigenkamm are more exciting. Gradually the forest clears up and opens onto a wide alpine meadow with old huts of dark wood. The one with the beautiful sun terrace, is the Stallwiesalm (1.850 m). From here, a good cup of coffee and a safe distance, you can watch the hectic bustle on the slopes. "We have sunshine in the winter until half past four in the afternoon because we are so high above," says Maria. She is part of the host family Fiegl and says: "The house is already 350 years old". This makes you curious, a look inside: old wood is simply the most beautiful. And if the sun does not shine, it sits at the simple white fireplace on bad weather days. You can also go back on the forest road by the toboggan.

Turn-by-turn directions

The Stallwiesalm is on Sölden's silent side and therefore you can fully enjoy the tour without traffic of cars.

Directly at the parking under the barrier, you can start the hike.

The first two turns are a bit steep, but then it gets flatter. The last climb to the hut is than again a bit steeper.

The path leads along a wide, groomed forest road to the Stallwiesalm. If there are good snow conditions, you can use sometimes the steep, narrow shortcuts through the forest. (don't get prepared - maybe icey)

For the descent you take the same way. If the snowconditions are well you are able to sledge down.

You can rent the toboganns at the hut.

The proper preparation and conservation is done by the hutkeeper as the way holder.

Sledging at your own risk!
