ÖTZTALER SocialCYCLE MARATHON

Every kilometer will help!

Special times require a special Cycle Marathon. That is why the organizers of the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon are offering the cycling community a truly unique charity event on the "Ötztaler Race Weekend" from 28 to 30 August. Every cyclist can complete the Ötztaler SocialCycle Marathon on a personal, favorite route. Participation in the social ride is free of charge. We are grateful for voluntary donations in support of our campaign "Every kilometer will help". Via "Netzwerk Tirol hilft" (Network Tirol helps) every donation goes directly to people in Tirol who are in need through no fault of their own. In 2020 everyone has the unique chance to finish the "personal" Ötztaler and do something good at the same time.

Net proceeds go to "Netzwerk Tirol hilft"

"Netzwerk Tirol hilft" (Network Tirol helps) is supported with all net proceeds collected on occasion of our campaign. "The federal Province of Tirol makes a picture-perfect holiday paradise but there is also another side that many do not see when they are traveling through the country, or probably people do not like to look closely: locals in desperate need. Every day we try to help people in Tirol who are in need through no fault of their own. A country like Tirol must not only be judged by its beautiful nature, sports offers and healthy tourism strategies, but it should also be measured by how it deals with those who are in need. The Netzwerk Tirol initiative can look back on a history of 11 very successful years with around 1800 requests per year and operates exclusively within Tirol. Additionally, 100 percent of the amount donated goes directly to those who are in need," explains network coordinator Herbert Peer. "Thank you so much to all the cyclists who cover 238 kilometers and help with their donation. At the moment, such help is urgently required in order to support people in need who are under even greater pressure due to the Corona crisis." With their campaign, the organizers want to give hope to these people and support them in an uncomplicated way: "Of course we cover all administrative costs together with our generous sponsors. It is much easier to help together than alone."

1. How does the ÖTZTALER SocialCYCLE MARATHON event format work?

The charity campaign runs from Friday, 28 August, to Sunday, 30 August 2020. It is up to you whether you cycle the entire route in one day or split it up to three days. Even where you cycle is up to you: finish the Ötztaler SocialCycle Marathon either on your favorite route, the exercise bike at home or other cycle routes.
From Friday, 28 August, you have three days to complete the total distance of 238 km. If you want to join in later, you can do that at any time. The finish of the Cycle Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, 30 August 2020 at 5:00 pm. If you finish your marathon earlier it's perfect! Should you cover more than 238 km - that's perfect as well!

2. How do I register?

Registration can be made easily online. You can register online as a participant and you also have the opportunity to make a donation for "Netzwerk Tirol hilft" (Network Tirol helps). Participation in the campaign is free of charge. Registration is not limited and possible until Sunday, 30 August 2020.

3. Where can I record my KM covered?

After registering on the homepage, you will receive a confirmation of participation and a link by email in order to enter your cycle distance covered from 28 to 30 August (time, distance and altitude meters per day). FAIR CYCLING! We trust in the honesty of our ÖCM community here! In case of doubt, the organization is entitled to request the tracking files.

4. What can I win at the Ötztaler SocialCycle Marathon?

Fame and glory! Almost as if you had finished the real Ötztaler Cycle Marathon. In addition to a certificate in gold (238 km cycled in one day), silver (238 km cycled in two days) or bronze (238 km cycled in three days), there is also a raffle with high-quality prizes - the first prize is a Trek racing bicycle. The results are available online. There is no classification as - here too - the Olympic idea is most important: It's the taking part that counts!

5. Will there be an official result list for the Ötztaler SocialCycle Marathon?

Of course :-) The results are recorded by Datasport and can be accessed by all registered participants at www.oetztaler-radmarathon.com. There is no scoring system or classification - It's the taking part that counts!

6. How is the certificate defined?

Your results entered online are analyzed by the system and the certificates are generated as follows:

  • Bronze Cycle Marathon in 3 days = min. 238 km on three days
  • Silver Cycle Marathon in 2 days = min. 238 km on two days
  • Gold Cycle Marathon in 1 day = min. 238 km covered on one day

7. How does the raffle work?

All officially registered participants are automatically admitted to the raffle, regardless of whether the cycle marathon was finished or not. The top-quality raffle prizes of our partners and sponsors are continuously presented on our social media channels. The prizes will be drawn on Sunday, 30 August. We will contact the prize winners personally.

8. Who can participate in the event?

Everyone! We are looking forward to top athletes, ambitious hobby sportspeople and those who simply enjoy cycling and who might not be able to complete the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon in one day.

9. Is there a minimum age for participants?

Cyclists are generally entitled to participate in the event from the age of 18.

10. Who will receive my donation?

Via "Netzwerk Tirol hilft" (Network Tirol helps) every donation goes directly to people in Tirol who are in need through no fault of their own. In 2020 everyone has the unique chance to finish the "personal" Ötztaler and do something good at the same time.

11. What do I have to consider before and during cycling?

The applicable road traffic regulations must be observed without exception. Also wear an approved helmet at the Ötztaler SocialCycle Marathon. Behave in an environmentally friendly way and be fair and respectful towards others. Give unmistakable and clearly visible hand signals to all road users. Also for your own safety. Choose your training route according to your personal aims and adapt your cycling to the respective situation (traffic volume, driving regulations, etc.)!

COVID-19

Get regular updates from local health authorities. Due to the current situation, different rules, guidelines and restrictions have been imposed in each country world-wide.
Sufficient side clearance when overtaking, meeting with other cyclists, pausing, etc. Cycling side by side only if permitted! Find out yourself about the symptoms of COVID-19 (including dry cough, fever and shortness of breath) and possible contagion risks. Don't participate in the event if you don't feel 100 percent healthy. Measure your temperature on the day of the event and refrain from participating if temperature is elevated. Participation is at your own peril and risk.
