SNOW MAKING SYSTEMS
Powder snow or crunching corn snow during late spring - The 110km slopes in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl are always perfectly groomed, also thanks to the modern snow-making facilities.
Due to its high-altitude location snow is almost guaranteed in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl. Just to be on the safe side, more than 90% of all slopes in both ski areas are equipped with artificial snow-making systems (since the winter season 1999/2000). Therefore, Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ranks among the top ski resorts where snow is always available in abundance. The entire snow making system is computerized. If both the temperature and the humidity are ideal, the snow making facilities start automatically. Five weather stations providing detailed information on the current conditions are spread across the ski area. The artificial snow consists of cold air and UV-irradiated and sterilized drinking water which comes from a reservoir (10,000m³) in the Gaisbergtal valley.
