ÖTZTAL HUT TO HUT TOUR

High Alpine hike along signposted trails. Due to the high altitude (up to 3360m), the rough terrain, the steep passages where little climbing skills are necessary (difficulty level: I) Alpine experience, a good physical shape, surefootedness, expert hiking equipment and a good head for heights are absolutely required. Ropes and ice picks are not necessary. Take climbing irons or crampons with you (e.g. 8-point crampons). Several (high Alpine) alternative routes and peak tours are available.

Obergurgl (1910m) - Langtalereck Hut (2450m) - Ramolhaus Refuge (3006m)

Take the broad and slightly rising trail across the ski area, leading from Obergurgl via Schönwies Hut to Langtalereck Hut. Follow the path in the direction of Hochwildehaus Refuge until the trail forks off to Ramolferner glacier. Continue downhill across the snowfree glacier snout in the north-west. Hike along the path to Obergurgl and take the serpentines on the left elading up to Ramolhaus refuge.

Hiking time: 5 hours
Difference in altitude: approx. 1100m (ascent)
Alternative route: direct ascent along the Ötztaler Jungschützenweg Trail from Obergurgl to Ramolhaus Refuge (approx. 4 hours)

Ramolhaus Refuge (3006m) - Ramoljoch Saddle (3186m) - Martin-Busch-Hut (2501m)

Follow the footpath to Ramolferner Glacier, walking a short track across the ice field. Turn left exactly at Venter Joch Saddle and continue in the direction of the rocks. Here you can choose from two different routes: either you take the long ladder or the two smaller ladders (easier!) and the rocks to reach Ramoljoch Saddle. Crossing some firn snow or gravel fields (depending on season) you keep to the right until you get to the hardly recognizable Diemweg Trail on the left. Walk to the south-west in the direction of Niedertal Valley, cross the bridge and continue hiking up the valley. The trail leads via Schäferhütte Refuge directly to Martin Busch Hut.

Hiking time: 5 hours
Difference in altitude: approx. 550m (ascent)
Alternative route: from Ramoljoch Saddle via Hinterer Spiegelkogl Peak (3426m), Firmisanschenide Area (3491m) and Schalfkogl Peak (3540m) to Martin Busch Hut (glacier hiking equipment required)

Martin-Busch-Hut (2501m) - Saykogl Peak (3360m) - Hochjoch-Hospiz Refuge (2413m)

Take the footpath located right behind the hut on the right (on the left: trail to Similaun Hut at Niederjoch Saddle) and follow the moderately rising trail to the west ridge of Saykogl Peak. Little climbing skills are required (difficulty level: I) to reach the south-facing summit. Then take the same way back until you cross the steep flank of the mountain, heading westwards in the direction of the long ridge (climbing skills: difficulty level I) that towers high above a small lake (rain gauge). Continue walking downhill to the glacier brooklet of Hochjochferner and cross the bridge. Walk northwards along the long and winding path leading down to the little bridge over Rofenache brook and up again to nearby Hochjoch Hospiz Refuge.

Hiking time: 5-6 hours
Difference in altitude: approx. 1000m (ascent)

Hochjoch-Hospiz Refuge (2413m) - Vernagt Hut (2766m) - Breslauer Hut (2840m)

Take the well-maintained and signposted foothpath in north-western direction. Turn right at approx. 2620m above sea level and follow the long trail past Guslarspitzen Peaks which are situated aprrox. 100m below Vernagt Hut. Continue to the point where the rushing waters of Vernagt Glacier flow off (bridge) and hike along the especially scenic and well-maintained path (Seufert Weg Trail) to Breslauer Hut.

Hiking time: 4 hours
Difference in altitude: 550m (ascent)

Breslauer Hut (2.840 m) - Vent (1.900 m)

There are two options for descending into the valley: The regular trails leads to the top terminal of the Wildspitze double chair lift (2,356m), from there you can either walk down to the village or take the lift. The second options leads on a steep trail directly to the Rofenhöfe farms (2,014m) – from there you continue to Vent (1,900m).

Walking Time: regular trail (1.5 hrs), to the top terminal of the chair lift (1 h) Past Rofen (1.5 - 2 hrs)
Altitude Loss: 940m (descent)
