General information on hiking
The alps are a highly sensitive, delicately balanced, ecologiacal area. It is for this reason that in 1990, the environmental initiative Green Force was called into being.

Who is Green-Force?
Opinion-makers from various institutions: community councils, lift oerators, ski schools, tourism, hotels, trade and commerce, representatives from all walks of life. 1990 saw the founding of the workind circle "Wir, Umwelt und Natur". (We, the Environment and Nature).

What does Green Force hope to achieve?
- Preservation of a region to live in and experience.
- Securing quality of life and a source of revenue for the local population.
- Ecology as a long-term economy



WHAT WE WOULD ASK OF YOU:

Please protect the animal environment:
Please do not walk trough pastures, fields, and the forest. Keep to our 300 km of trails or mountain ascents, as they will lead you to all of the most interesting places in our region.

Please protect the plant environment:
Please do not pick any flowers, plants or mushrooms (A great deal of them are prtected species). Enjoy the sight of them, and preserve our variety.

Please protect our environment:
Do not leave any rubbish on the paths, in the huts, or on the pastures. Please bring all of your rubbish back with you into the valley. You will find a Green Force rubbish reczycling receptacle at the start of every trail, where you can separate and dispose of your rubbish.

Please bear in mind that our children should also have a chance to enjoy the beautiful nature of the Ötztal valley. We are continually trying to develop and up-date the Green Force initiative. Your suggestions upon how to improve will help us rech that goal. Thank you for your comments.

Friendly men and women wander trough the Ötztal arena clothed in a conspicuous red shirt, or parka, with a kind of scout hat. They are tasked with the pleasant job of advising, and informing int he friendliest way possible, reflecting the moto, "the environmental officer, your friend and helper". Their main job is to transfer the Green Force philosophy.

The preservation of a world to live and experience is intended to raise the visitor's recuperation value, which in turn can be quite the motivating factor for his/her holiday decision. The quality of life for the local population is to be elevated, and secured for the future. This in turn secures the local source of revenue - tourism - for the population. Ecology is long-term economy!

Many requests, good ideas, and suggestions on improvement are brought to the responsible toursm ears via the environment officers and what they glean from the guests. They advise the guests, but at the same time keep an eye on the nature, protecting the animal and plant life.
