HIKING
Hiking and history. Carefully one crosses the suspension bridge to the famous Rofenhöfe farms. Curiously one visits the primeval hunters' lodge. A visit of the outdoor camp below the "Hohle Stein" rockslide boulder is also worthwhile. The white brooks of Ventertal valley tell their own story; they form a strong contrast to the lush green meadows.
Tirol's Highest Mountain
Vent is starting point for a hike to get to Tirol's highest spot. Wildspitze Mountain with its 3,774m rises up to the sky.
"Ötzi" Iceman Finding Site
From Vent past the Similaun hut one gets to the finding site of the Iceman. The spot where a German couple discovered the 5,000-year old mummified corpse. This finding was a world-wide sensation for science.
MOUNTAIN BIKE
From Zwieselstein and through Ventertal Valley one gets to Vent. From there it is only a few kilometers to the Rofenhöfe farms. Having arrived at an altitude of 2,011m efforts are rewarded at the highest-located permanent settlement of the Eastern Alps with a suspension bridge, Haflinger horses and the view of the summits.
WORTH SEEING
• Saint Jakob Church (Parish Church) In 1502 a small chapel was consecrated to Saint Jakob. In 1712 the chapel was rebuilt to a bigger church. At the beginning of the 19th century it was buried under an avalanche and unfortunately destroyed. With joint forces the church was immediately rebuilt.
• Rofenhöfe Farms and Geierwally Farm Rofenhöfe farms at an altitude of 2.014m are the highest-lying, permanently settled farms of Austria. The suspension bridge and the world-famous Haflinger breed are also worth a visit.
