We warmly welcome you to our great Birthday Party!
The ultimate "Ötztaler" celebrates already its 30th birthday and everyone is warmly invited to join us. On 22 August 1982, the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon was officially kicked-off. Exactly 154 cyclists started the race from the Wilten Basilica in Innsbruck at 6:15 am in the morning. A quite small group of male racers from five different countries. Only one year later the first female athletes dared to participate.
Today, almost 30 years later, some 10,000 cycling fans register online for the coveted 4,000 starting places in the marathon, which are sold out after a few minutes. Of course there are as well plenty of female participants among the racers, and their finishing times are remarkably convincing also for the men.
There are only few reasons why the "Ötztaler" has become one of the most renowned cycle marathons in the Alps: the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon ranks among the most successful road cycling races thanks to the big number of international participants, the huge amount of volunteers, the expert organizinig committee of Ernst Lorenzi, and the untiring support of Heike Klotz. Thank you to all of you! No less than 150 out of 700 persons take care of the refreshment stations and provide the cyclists with snacks and drinks - giving them tonic wings! A perfect collaboration coupled with a fine entertainment program makes the "Ötztaler" a truly wonderful Premier League cycle event. And we are very proud of it!
I would be pleased to give you a hearty welcome to our "30th Anniversary Party" taking place in the Ötztal. Maybe you have already thought about spending some more days in the scenic Ötztal valley? Then check out the mde to measure package deals available at countless hotels.
Good luck to everyone!
Sporty greetings and best regards...
Yours, Oliver Schwarz
Managing Director
